PSYCHOTHERAPY

At The Counseling & Family Wellness Center, we offer psycho-therapeutic services that include mental health counseling, marriage and family therapy, couples counseling, addiction treatment, grief counseling, and psychiatric referrals.

Psychotherapy is a process that in essence helps individuals deal with emotional issues. It is not only a way to overcome problems but is also an experience that helps improve self-esteem, promote personal growth, and develop a positive outlook in life. It is a therapeutic approach which emphasizes an increase sense of control and overall wellness, in order to enhance relationships and many times regaining pleasure in life.

The American Counseling Association Consensus 20/20 defines the counseling process as follows: is a professional relationship that empowers diverse individuals, families, and groups to accomplish mental health, wellness, education, and career goals (ACA, 2010).

CHILDREN SERVICES

Here at the Center we have very well trained professionals who understand how to help children in overcoming emotional and behavioral issues. Some of the psychological and behavioral problems that we commonly encounter in children are related to attention, hyperactivity, anxiety, depression, oppositional-defiance and eating disorders among others.

We have ample experience in treating diagnoses that are especially related to trauma. Many times children experience adjustment symptoms of traumatic experiences of emotional, physical and sexual abuse and/or neglect. We have specially helped families work through problems that arise during crisis such as a divorce and loss/grief.

Our approach includes family intervention, parenting education, and individual treatment according to the needs of the family's members. Some of the techniques may include play therapy, art therapy, relaxation, and EMDR.

CONSULTING

Consulting is a process that includes a collaborative an egalitarian relationship between the client or organization and the consultant. The main focus of the intervention is facilitating problem-solving skills, while focusing on possible solutions and better functioning of the system in question. It is a process that highlights the importance of looking at problems not only as situations but also as the meaning that participants of any particular system give to those situations.

The Center offers consultation in the following area: Parenting Coordination, Family Mediation, Life Coaching, Wellness Programs, Medical Yoga and Parenting Education. We also offer a guide of referrals regarding mental and family services
